Sunday, October 16 4pm - BGSU Faculty Jazz Quartet This quartet of BGSU College of Musical Arts Jazz Faculty members consists of: David Bixler - Alto Saxophone, Chris Buzzelli - Guitar, Jeff Halsey - Double Bass, and Roger Schupp - Drums. The ensemble has been performing Jazz standards and original compositions weekly at venues in Bowling Green and elsewhere as the official Jazz representatives of the College of Musical Arts. Expect entertainment AND a creative musical experience. Plus you are invited to join us after the concert for a dinner to benefit our High School Youth Group who will be traveling to the National Youth Gathering in New Orleans next July.
Sunday, November 27 7pm - The Toledo Symphony presents “Holiday in Whitehouse”
Feel like you’re on stage with the symphony! We welcome the TSO back for the fourth consecutive year. Tickets are now on sale for the Symphony’s Holiday Concert held here at Community of Christ, Sunday, November 27, at 7PM. French Hornist, Matt Mauro, son of Laurie and Vince Mauro, will be our guest soloist. Matt is a graduate student in Orchestral Performance Studies at the University of Georgia. Ticket prices are $20 per person and $50 per family in same household and will be sold after worship services during church office hours during the week.
Sunday, February 12 4pm - Ohio Northern University Steel Drum Band and Children’s Choir of NWO The Ohio Northern University Steel Drum Band was begun in 2006 by Dr. Sarah Waters to supplement the percussion program at the school. The band performs on its own campus and has performed at area schools. In the spring of 2010 the band went on a tour of Southern states. The music of the steel band is traditionally full of lively Caribbean dance rhythms and sing-able melodies. Steel drum music originated on the island of Trinidad in the Caribbean in the 1940’s, and has quickly become popular world-wide.
The Children’s Choir of Northwest Ohio is a community based choir comprised of children in grades 3-9 from throughout the Toledo area. The choirs are under the direction of Lisa Alleman and Hilary Heisman. Past performances include collaborations with the Perrysburg Symphony Chorale, the Junior Choral Society and the Lourdes University Community Choir, Anthony Wayne HS’s “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” the National Anthem at Mud Hens and Walleye games and participation in the 2011 Southeast Ohio Children’s Choir Festival.
Sunday, March 25 4pm - BGSU Trumpet Ensemble The Bowling Green Trumpet Ensemble was founded in 1983 by Professor Emeritus of Trumpet, Edwin Betts and several graduate trumpet students at the College. The ensemble, under the direction of Associate Professor of trumpet Charles Saenz, performs on a regular basis on and off campus. The Ensemble provides students the opportunity to hone their performance and ensemble skills in an intensive chamber music environment, exploring the breadth of trumpet ensemble music from the Baroque to the present.
A freewill offering will be collected at all but the Toledo Symphony concert to help defray expenses.
