Worship & Music

Worship Services

We offer three worship services at Community of Christ - Saturday at 4:00 PM, and Sunday at 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM. For the summer we have ONE worship service on Sunday at 9 AM. Our traditional services are uplifting and use a variety of settings out of the Evangelical Lutheran Worship hymnal and other sources. Communion is offered at every service. The liturgy and hymns are led by the pipe organ or piano on Sundays, and by the piano on Saturdays. Community of Christ has a strong tradition of music, and most services offer additional music by our choirs or special instrumentalists.

We offer a staffed nursery during the 10:00 worship service. Trained young adults care for children from infants through kindergarten.

Other special services include:

* Three Advent services on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 PM

* Christmas Eve (4:00 PM, 7:00 PM, 11:00 PM)

* Six Lenten services on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM leading up to Holy Week

* Holy Week - Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Vigil

* Thanksgiving eve service at 7:00 PM

Other Music Opportunities - Community of Christ Lutheran Church has many ways in which to involve those with special gifts in music. Whether your gift is vocal or instrumental, whether you prefer to be a part of an ensemble or provide solo music or instrumental parts for the hymns or choir anthems, there are many times throughout the year in which there is an opportunity for you to share your gifts and talents. If you have any talents to share, please contact our Music Director, Eric Dickey at 419-877-0607 (office) or music@commofchrist.org

Saturday Musicians - We are looking for musicians to enhance the singing at the Saturday 4pm service. If you are interested in participating occasionally or on a rotational basis please contact Eric Dickey. Vocalists or instrumentalists are invited!

Baptisms

Baptism is the means by which God makes sons and daughters. Through baptism we are washed and made new. God, who is rich in mercy and love, gives us a new birth into a living hope through the sacrament of baptism. By water and the Word God delivers us from sin and death and raises us to new life in Jesus Christ. We are united with all the baptized in the one body of Christ, anointed with the gift of the Holy Spirit, and joined in God's mission for the life of the world (Evangelical Lutheran Worship - The Baptismal Liturgy)

We welcome the baptism of those both within the church and those presently outside the church. Adults who wish to be baptized are instructed prior to baptism either through the Lutheran Basics Class or privately. Parents who wish to have their child baptized into God’s family at Community of Christ need to contact the church office to set up an appointment to meet with the pastor.

Baptisms are a part of the service and can be done most weekends at either the 4PM, 8AM, or 10AM services.

Weddings

We enjoy being involved in Christian weddings. We enjoy being involved in the planning of the wedding, as well as conducting the wedding service. Our pastor and the Director of Music form a team, with the bride and groom to make the wedding ceremony a memorable worship experience.

Wedding services are held at the church with weddings beginning no later than 2:30PM on Saturday afternoon because of our 4PM worship service. We provide a room for the bride and her attendants, complete with mirrors and a bathroom. The groom and his attendants come to the church dressed for the wedding.

Those who wish to have the weddings at Community of Christ are encouraged to contact the church office to talk about available dates and times. The sooner the better as many dates fill quickly.

Most weddings performed at Community of Christ are for people who are Community of Christ members. On occasion, we perform weddings for people who are not members. Our Wedding Guidelines, which talk specifically about different aspects of the wedding, are available in the church office.

Funerals

Funerals are celebrations of the resurrection. Most Community of Christ funeral services are held in the sanctuary, where members worship and where the rich resources of Christian hymnology and music are most accessible. Holy Communion is a natural part of the funeral liturgy.

Luncheons are offered to those whose loved one was a member of the congregation.

Funerals are also conducted for non-members and may take place either in the worship area or in the funeral home.

The person to contact at the time of death is the pastor. Please call the church office prior to making plans with a funeral home so that coordination of time, place, pastor and music can take place.

Please talk to the church office for more details.
