Social Action
Food Pantry - Food is collected 365 days a year for both the Whitehouse Food Pantry and Salem Lutheran's Food Pantry, and delivered regularly to each organization. Fair Trade - Fair Trade is an organized social movement and market-based approach that aims to help producers in developing countries obtain better trading conditions and promote sustainability. The movement advocates the payment of a higher price to producers as well as social and environmental standards. It focuses in particular on exports from developing countries to developed countries, most notably handicrafts, coffee, cocoa, sugar, tea, bananas, honey, cotton, wine, fruit, chocolate and flowers. To help farmers in developing countries earn a fair trade, you may purchase coffees, teas, and chocolates from the cupboard in the main hallway of our church. Angel Tree - Community of Christ supports Salem Lutheran in downtown Toledo by being “secret Angels” for children at Christmas. A list is provided to the congregation with the names, ages, and wish list for each child. The congregation then picks a name and helps each child feel the love of Christ through the joy of Christmas gifts. Lutheran World Relief Kits - At the beginning of the school year, the Craft Group sews book bags which are then loaded with school supplies by the Sunday School classes. These are sent to locations all over the globe and allow children to attend school equipped to learn. Community of Christ also makes health kits and layettes for Lutheran World Relief.
